Chirp transcribes everything locally on your device, so dictation works on airplanes, in areas with poor connectivity, or anywhere else without relying on the cloud. The ~30 MB whisper.cpp model runs entirely on your machine. (Chirp checks for updates when it launches and, once licensed, checks the license about once a day; it keeps working for up to seven days offline between checks.)
